The twelve gods of Olympus are the main gods of Greek mythology who lived at the top of Olympus. The Olympian gods gained power by defeating the Titans in the Titanomachia. In fact, the ancient Greeks did not have a particular twelve, but there were great and smaller gods and others who were worshipped locally, for example. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades were the greatest gods, while Dionysos was a lesser god.
