I fell in love with ancient history during boyhood visits to my grandparents' house, when the entertainment on offer was either Antiques Roadshow on the TV or a row of ancient history books on the bookcase. The choice was pretty simple. Since then, I've studied ancient history and ancient thought up to PhD level, and have taught the subjects for the Open University and the University of Nottingham. My first book, Ancient Greece and American Conservatism: Classical Influence on the Modern Right, was published in 2018. Whilst my intellectual interest lies in ancient Greece, my heart is with the Romans, and I try to get over to Italy as often as possible!
