Erik Shell

Erik Shell I got started in ancient history back in 2011 when I did a presentation on Aristophanes' "Knights." That led me to pursue my undergrad degree in Classics, followed swiftly by an attempt at a Classics Ph.D. Failing that, I went to work for the Society for Classical Studies.

My favorite thing about the ancient world is the uncertainty. The Greek language allowed for so many things to be said at the same time, even contradictory things. Similarly, we can only know so much about a people so far away from us, and that uncertainty was always more fun for me to sit with than trying to figure out the "right" answer.
