Site of the Viking Town Hedeby

Site of the Viking trading centre of Hedeby, which flourished under the Danish Vikings from the 8th-11th centuries CE and lies in present-day northern Germany, near the city of Schleswig. Archaeological excavations are ongoing but the Hedeby Viking Museum (Danish: Vikingemuseum Hedeby; German: Wikinger Museum Haithabu) in Busdorf, Germany contains among others reconstructed houses from the town (visible in the distance in this photograph).
