Ice Age drawing of a bison, on limestone, about 13,000-14,000 years old. Found in Montastruc, France.

Over, 100,000 years ago the first fully modern humans in southern Africa began to create works of art. These people then migrated to Europe near the end of the last ice age. This particular drawing is typical of ice age art, as the artist used the shape of the stone to highlight the shape of the Bison.

This image was taken at the National Museum of Australia in the British Museums travelling exhibition A History of the World in 100 (and 1) Objects.
