This coin depicts Vadfradad I, king of Persis (Fars) in Southern Iran, who can be identified on both sided of the coin by his special headgear. On the back, a figure holds up a royal headband (diadem) as a symbol of kingship behind the ruler. The winged figure above the temple symbolizes the glory of the king. Silver tetradrachm coin from Fars, circa 280 BCE. Vadfradad I was a son of Vahbarz; he and his successors were as sub-Parthian dynasts. From the Prideaux Collection. (The British Museum, London).
