The Sphinx Gate, Alacahöyük

The Sphinx Gate at Alacahöyük (central Turkey), the site of a Neolithic and Hittite settlement, dated to the 14th century BCE. The Sphinx Gate, fortified with towers, was the south entrance of the city. It is flanked by sphinx protomes sculpted in monolith stone. These sphinxes are the protectors of the city.
