A Pentelic marble portrait bust of Herodes Atticus. Provenance: Khisias, Attica, mid-2nd century CE. Atticus was a wealthy Athenian sophist who funded many public projects, notably the theatre on the slopes of the Athenian acropolis. (National Archaeological Museum, Athens)
