These extracts have been selected with a threefold object: (1) to give a connected narrative of Macedonian historj from 201 to 167 B.C.; (2) to draw out the salient traits in the characters of Philip Y. and Perseus; (3) to show the way in which republican Rome dealt with a foreign nation. In the preparation of the notes, use has been made of the commentaries of Weissenborn and Ruperti, and of the historical works of Thirlwall, Mommsen, Flathe, I hne, Rawlinson, and Freeman, besides the original Greek and Latin authorities. The text adopted is that of Madvig, with a few variations in readings and orthography. (Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)
