The buildings, paintings, sculptures and interior decoration of the imperial tombs of the Ming and Qing dynasties are the highlights of the 5,000-year-old Chinese burial history. They contain the best elements of the culture in Central China and characteristics of the Manchu nomadic tribe from Northeast China. Their designs and constructions are flawless. The tombs provide us with valuable materials for the study on burial customs. They have become much liked by tourist attractions. Color photos throughout.
