The present work by Dr. Shuckford combines the Sacred and Profane History of the World, from the Creation of mankind to the death of Joshua, that is, from the common reckoning of B. c. 4004 to B. c. 1426.1 It was originally published towards the middle of the last century, and though to some extent imbued with the controversial spirit of the age, is in every respect a valuable and remarkable book. The primary object of the author was to bring together and synchronize the ancient history of the world, as recorded in the Scriptures on the one hand, and as preserved in heathen traditions on the other. But in carrying out this design he has been frequently led into long and interesting digressions.
