Bill Bomar: Famous Moundville Artifacts

published on 26 April 2014

Carved from a single piece of stone, the Duck Bowl was called "the most significant prehistoric artifact ever found in the U.S." when it was discovered in 1905. Some say it still is. The Museum is also proud to feature the iconic Moundville Rattle Snake Disk, engraved with the "hand and eye" design, a symbol representing the "path of souls," more commonly known as the Milky Way.
